Take the long way round! The Pacific Coast Highway is the ultimate Kiwi Road Trip, it starts in Ōpōtiki or Gisborne and winds it's around the stunning East Coast There is plenty to see and do on your 2-3 day journey down the Coast – check out the interactive map below which will help show you all the stunning spots along SH35.
Stop off at Café 35 in Tokomaru Bay and try one of their famous pāua pies, or check out the legendary Kaiaua Beach Horse Races which takes place between Christmas and New Years and is a wonderful way to immerse yourself in the region and meet some of the passionate locals.
The fishing at Tolaga Bay is also pretty good, so make sure to pack your fishing rod, and if you’re not a fisherman – go for a walk down the 660m wharf!
